Spirit Goth
Spirit Goth is a DIY artist-run label that specializes in releasing lo-fi pop music on vinyl and cassettes. The sound spans bedroom pop, dream pop, shoegaze, post-punk, new wave and jangle pop — basically just indie rock in general.
The label was started in 2016 in a college dorm by Josh Hwang (aka CASTLEBEAT). The very first release was Girlfight by Jaded Juice Riders, Josh's high school lo-fi surf project. In the early days, he used to record cassettes by hand on an old tape deck, one cassette at a time. Since then, Spirit Goth has grown organically via word-of-mouth and the internet, but is still run by Josh along with the help of his wife, Sonia Gadhia.
Crafted Sounds worked with Spirit Goth in 2025 to help them bring a few titles to indie stores for the first time in their label's history. This gave the label the direction they needed to establish their own physical framework they have today.
