With Zoom university on autopilot, Sebastian Kinsler (guitar, production, vocals, bass) and Ryan Walchonski (guitar, vocals) got to work at Ryan’s South Oakland apartment in February 2021. Spiraling through distorted layers of fuzz and digitization, the duo quickly began to piece together a short and sweet package of catchy rock songs. Add in Jake Kelley on the ol’ living room drum set, and feeble little horse officially came to be.
Moving swiftly on a wave of creativity, the band released their first five songs under the title modern tourism in May 2021. The EP exudes solitude, heartbreak and emotional apathy, stemming from how, where and when the songs were recorded. Starting in the cold, gray months of February and built on crumbling relationships and the anxiety of a pandemic, modern tourism captures a dark span of weeks/months in what is otherwise a lighthearted, easygoing (yet loud) band.
Per the group’s bandcamp page, “modern tourism is guitar music.” Since publishing that statement in 2021, many sources have confirmed that feeble little horse’s sound is everything they could’ve hoped for and more! Their unique style takes “guitar music” to new heights, grabbing listeners between textured noise, infectious riffs, and lethargic vocals.
The band recorded and mixed modern tourism themselves and then sought out mastering services from Dylan Wall who has worked on records by Hotline TNT, Weed, Versing, Craft Spells, and many others.
